Quick update

Mid September and our English weather is now quite English and I’m very settled to that. 

We had a scramble to arms this Summer as a couple of magazines asked if we would like to be featured and there is nothing quite like a deadline!  Having lived with exposed cables, peeking insulation, unfinished walls etc etc, I thought yay! We can finish this place!  Chris thought, oh my god, three weeks!!

But onwards, the weatherboarding is looking smart, kiln four bedroom is complete without the usual ‘that’ll do, we can finish later’ and I managed to put up most of this rather divine wallpaper from abroad which is now on the front cover of the Wealden Times September issue.

So my mind is now turning to the Oast House Brocante, an event conceived from the fear of that English weather ruining a jolly good vintage fair.

Held twice a year, this October’s will be our fifth.  Essentially, the downstairs of our home is cleared and we (Hetty Purbrick and I) fill it with gorgeous antiques and vintage.  We ask a couple of others as guests, carefully considered to ensure we have a real mixture of treasures and suitable for every pocket.

These days are a chance to come, meet up with friends, enjoy a cup of tea around our kitchen table and eat homemade cake.  It’s very convivial, very beautiful and most importantly, very relaxed.  There’s an eclectic mixture of continental brocante and English country home with a good dash of industrial, old and contemporary art (botanical) plus pressed flowers in old frames.

We are a little different in our curation and we love people to walk around and look at our ongoing conversion of this listed Oast and gardens so you feel you’ve had a jolly good outing!
